Fun Snacks for Kids

I’m so excited to share these fun snacks for kids.  It’s nothing earth shattering, or new.  However, it’s simple, easy, the kids can do it themselves, or quick help from an adult.  I hate fussy food for snacks.  I love seeing them all over Pintrest, but I honestly can’t imagine spending oodles of time creating a little face in my kids snack.

I got this idea because I was in charge of snack for my preschoolers class.  I had the letter X that I needed to bring a snack they could create with X.  I didn’t want to bring 2 pretzels for them to just make an X with.  I finally found the idea of using a cookie cutter, and creating an X with cheese!  I LOVED it. It was cute, it was easy, the kids could do it.  I was game.

It was super successful in preschool and we were in a snack rut at home, so I pulled out the cookie cutters that my kids names start with, and they LOVED eating their letters.  Grabbed some crackers to pair with it, and we were good to go.

Grab some cheese and a cookie cutter.  Take your cookie cutter, and press firmly.  I had to pick my slice up and push the cutter through some parts.

Push your shape out as necessary.

Two letters in one!  Don’t you love the upside down J?  🙂

Then, I was serving up apples and decided that using cookie cutters with them would be a perfect pair!
Super easy.  Grab your washed apple, sharp knife, and cutting board.

Slice your apple horizontal.  Basically the opposite of how you make normal apple slices.  😉  If it’s super crocked like mine, then you get extra points.

Grab some small cookie cutters (really small).  I had some tiny hearts that I knew would work perfectly.  I didn’t try using plastic ones for these at all, but I’m sure you could make them work somehow.

Ta-da!  You’re the coolest person ever to the kids because they get hearts in the middle of their apples.  You could even spread peanut butter or something similar on these and have a great healthy snack!

Thanks Robin! It was so much fun, and so easy! Like I mentioned in the post, I really am not good about making “cute” food for my kids. It was perfect. They could participate, and eat something great for them!
